Popping Instructions

Easy directions for Regular Kernels and Popping Ears.

Regular Kernels — Stovetop Method

This follows the instructions printed on our bags.

  • Heat 3 Tbsp of oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  • Pour 1/2 cup kernels into the pot and place the lid on top.
  • Shake and move the kernels continuously as popping begins.
  • Remove from heat once popping slows to avoid burns/scorching.
  • For best flavor and texture, allow to cool briefly before eating.

If using an air or popcorn popper, follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Popping Ears — Microwave Paper Bag Method

Quick and fun for the whole cob. Some kernels pop off the cob into the bag — that’s normal!

  1. Place 1 popping ear in a clean, standard brown paper lunch bag.
  2. Fold the top of the bag over twice to secure.
  3. Microwave on HIGH for 1½–3 minutes, stopping when pops are about 2 seconds apart.
  4. Carefully open (hot steam!), pour into a bowl, and season to taste.
Alternate methods
  • Silicone microwave popper: Put the ear inside; follow the popper’s directions and timing cues.
  • Stovetop: Strip kernels off the ear first, then use the Regular Kernels stovetop method above.

Safety: Never leave popping unattended. Stop the microwave when popping slows to avoid scorching.
